Time for New Goals

June 4, 2009

For anybody who reads this blog–I apologize for not writing on a more regular basis. Life has been rather difficult around here. I’m still fighting with my disability company and still not feeling well part of the time and my writing has suffered. So, I apologize. And I vow to do better.

Last weekend Alyson graduated high school. That was a major event in our home! I remember quite early in this journey with cancer making that one of my goals. I wanted to get my girls through school. At the time, it seemed unreachable. Something that I had little or no hope of ever acheiving. I thought I might have a chance of seeing Emily’s graduation 3 years earlier; however I doubted I could ever see Alyson’s graduation. That seems too far off. 8 years away when I was being told I wouldn’t be alive at the end of the first year. It was a goal that was very important to me. Something I wanted desperately; to get my girls grown at least somewhat, where they could make it on their own if they had to. They are there, although I still don’t have any plans to leave them any time soon!

Now she has graduated. And, not only has she finished her High School career, she graduated early with Honors and went ahead and started college already. At the same time she finished HS, she also almost has enough credits to finish her Freshman year at college. She just returned from Costa Rica, where she went with the University on a study abroad program.

So this event had multiple meaning for our family. It was a true milestone.
And now it’s time for new goals…. I think I’ll make them for another 8 years out! :-)
