Spring has Sprung; Breathe-Life!

March 20, 2009

The sun is shining brighter. There is a crispness to the air that I can actually feel.  The sky has a deeper shade of blue.  The grass is growing again; greener than winter grass.  The daffodils have several blooms now- bright yellow flowers on top of deeper green stalks.  The neighbors cut their grass today, and the scent still lingers in the air. My Cleveland Pear trees have tiny little white flowers budding out. It’s still daylight when I get off work and I can hear birds singing their songs as they perch high in the tree branches during my drive home. It’s undeniable now, spring has sprung! And that makes my heart joyful!

As I took my puppies out this morning I noticed a bunny run from my neighbors, the Reeder’s, home. The peach trees that Delbert and I bought a couple of years ago are stronger, taller, and starting to bud. I wonder if this will be the summer we might grow a (as in single) peach… it won’t be enough for a pie, but it’s a start and that’s how it all begins. Last week, Rick cut the grass, trimmed my shrubs and groomed the yard for new summer growth.

Today, David Sturges, my dear friend and co-founder, emailed me to say, “the sun is out!”  He lives in MINNESOTA!  It’s happening everywhere; spreading across the country like a wave. Spring is a process and it’s happening!  It’s been a long, difficult winter. But now, I’m happy, really happy! It feels like renewed hope.

And so does Breathe Life!!   BreatheLife is a new national campaign from OPI- a leading nail polish company.  OPI designed a special nail polish color specifically for lung cancer and the Lung Cancer Foundation of America Susie Fischmann, OPI’s Co-Founder, decided to start this campaign to help bring awareness to lung cancer and increase research funding!!  I’m proud our Foundation has been able to do this for lung cancer.  I’m happy and proud.

OPI is the FIRST corporation to publicly stand up to the plate and support lung cancer. The first of anything is always the hardest. OPI is only the first bloom…. just like my single daffodil bloom over a week ago–more will follow OPI’s footsteps. Growth will spread across the nation. There are signs that lung cancer advocacy is growing and with increased funding we can eventually change the course of this disease–meaning fewer people will lose their lives to lung cancer. This is as exciting and as life-saving as spring is every year!!! This is just the beginning for lung cancer.

BreatheLife!!   I’m happy, proud and hopeful!!  Spring is here; Breathe Life!

KUDOS to OPI, and THANK YOU, SUSIE!!!

(Let’s all let OPI and Susie Fischmann know how much we appreciate what she has done for lung cancer…. this is truly awesome!!)
