November 6, 2010

On November 6, 2010, a “Girls Night Out” hosted by the families of the Washington City Firefighters and benefiting Lung Cancer Foundation of America was held at the Washington City Community Center. The guests were welcomed by volunteers provided by the local Target store, which made this event their volunteer event for the month of November.

Throughout the evening, there was entertainment from some very talented locals as well as access to several “Just for Fun” Booths that included Notable Creations Scrapbooking, Lia Sophia Jewelry and Mary Kay Make Up Tips. Attendees also had the opportunity to have their nails done with OPI BreatheLife – a color created especially for Lung Cancer Foundation of America. The main event – a fashion show – featured styles donated by local clothing stores.

Ending the evening, in tribute to those families who have lost a loved one to lung cancer, was a performance of the song “For Good” from the musical Wicked. The final line of the song is: “Because I knew you… I have been changed for good.”

Kingfisher Open – Memorial Volleyball Tournament, York, PA

August 7, 2010

Clark Fisher, an athlete and a non-smoker, was diagnosed with lung cancer in early 2009. On November 12, 2009, he lost his battle with this disease. To honor his memory, friends of Clark Fisher started the Clark E. Fisher Memorial and the 1st Annual KingFisher Memorial Volleyball Tournament. Clark loved his family, friends and volleyball, so we’ve decided to bring together all the people and things that were important to Clark with the goal of helping other cancer patients. The proceeds raised at this event will be donated to the Cancer Patient Help Fund (a local organization in York) and Lung Cancer Foundation of America for lung cancer research.
